VMware, Mitel, and Vidyo Release Joint Solution
VMware, Mitel, and Vidyo Release Joint Solution by Robbie Pleasant
Mitel, Vidyo, and VMware have recently revealed a new joint solution, one that combines the virtualized Unified Communicator Advanced Client Software of MItel with Vidyo's VidyoConferencing collaboration solution and VMware View. The resulting solution allows for collaboration over any medium, with simplified VDI management, increased security, and lessened costs.
VMware View offers virtualized desktops as a managed service from the cloud, and can now help IT deliver video, audio, and web conferencing, along with presence, voice, instant messaging, document sharing, and email. All this can be accessed from signing onto a terminal or through a VMware View client, accessing the collaboration tools as well as the virtualized desktop.
While virtualized voice to virtual desktop streaming can contain performance or latency issues, this new joint solution has the technological prowess to eliminate them, instead delivering a clear and secure experience. Communications are split into two pieces, which are then transmitted through the data center or directly to the endpoints, providing quality connections without a loss in performance.
"This is a logical step forward for Mitel, as their virtualization strategy shifts from being built around desktop collaboration instead of voice," says Jon Arnold, UC Expert at UCStrategies and Principal of J Arnold & Associates. "Being cloud-based, Vidyo looks to be a good partner, but this also puts further distance between Mitel and their Wesley Clover cousin Magor, who appear to be taking a more niche-based path in the video space. Conversely, Mitel gains quicker mindshare via Vidyo's fast-growing footprint and by leveraging their market-leading UCC platform with VMware."
The joint solution will be demonstrated at VMworld 2012, held at San Francisco's Moscone Center from August 26-30. For more information, visit www.vidyo.com, www.mitel.com, or www.vmworld.com.
