Voxofon Launches First Free Messaging App for Windows 8 by UCStrategies Staff

Voxofon, a voice and messaging OTT provider, launched a free messaging app for the new Windows operating system. The Voxofon app, which is compatible with Windows 8, is offered as a free download from the Windows Store. The messaging app is Voxofon’s tablet debut, joining the company’s other offerings of smartphone apps.

According to Voxofon officials, the app has been designed by the company to cater to the messaging needs of consumers. It allows users to send text messages easily and inexpensively. In addition, the app lets users make international calls inexpensively. Voxofon claims that their calling rates are far cheaper than those charged by major phone carriers and Skype.

The tile layout of Windows 8 enables the users of the Voxofon messaging app to conveniently view and compose a reply to messages. The Voxofon app can be dragged either to the left or to the right sidebar in order to continue chatting while using other applications. Snap also integrates seamlessly with Voxofon.

Users of Voxofon’s messaging app for Windows 8 can send messages free to other Voxofon users on iPhone, Android, Windows Phone, and Windows 8 tablets. Free messaging is also available by way of Voxofon.com. Moreover, cheap SMS messaging is made possible between users of Windows tablets, smartphones, and traditional mobile phones via the Voxofon Bridge Messaging Technology.

Direct phone-to-phone calls that are made using the Voxofon messaging app for Windows 8 allow users to make international calls at dramatically reduced rates. The Voxofon app is said to lower the regular call charges for up to around 98 percent less than what major phone carriers charge and up to 50 percent less than Skype’s per minute charging.

In related news, Microsoft launched its Windows Phone 8, the company’s answer to the fast-growing needs of the smartphone market. During the launch, Joe Belfiore, corporate vice president of Microsoft and head of its phone division, presented the features of the new Windows 8 operating system. CEO Steve Ballmer, on the other hand, presented Windows 8 handsets.

The Nokia 920, the flagship model of the Windows Phone lineup, was built out of the Nokia and Microsoft partnership and would be made available in the US through AT&T in November, 2012. Two other high-end smartphones were also unveiled. On top of the Nokia 920, the Samsung Ativ S and HTC Windows Phone 8X were also presented as part of the new Windows Phone lineup. (KOM) Link.
