Toshiba Upgrades IPedge Line of IP Phones by UCStrategies Staff
The Telecommunication Systems Division of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. announces the upgraded version of its IPedge line of IP phone systems designed for use by SMBs. Dubbed as Release 1.5, the new features introduced in this upgrade include a mobile client called IPMobility, voice mail survivability through direct cluster networking, and integrated gateway wizards.
Three models of Toshiba’s IPedge line – IPedgeEM (for up to 1,000 users), IPedge EC (for up to 200 users), and IPedge EP (for up to 40 users) – benefit from the additional features that come with Release 1.5.
The IPMobility client application imparts, for both Apple and Android smartphones, a single number reach, wherein users only need to give out their office phone numbers to get incoming calls. And to accomplish outgoing calls, IPMobility dials via IPedge, showing the office telephone number caller ID and offering minimal routing costs for long distance and international calls.
With the IPMobility application, the user can either dial via the IPedge or make the IPedge call back the user before placing an outbound call. The latter is a way to avoid incurring long-distance charges through the use of the mobile network.
Moreover, IPMobility is responsible for providing a visual voice mail that enables a user to remotely manage the voice mailbox of IPedge Messaging. Using a mobile phone, an IPedge user can then access, play, forward, and send replies to fax and voice messages.
This latest upgrade brings Toshiba’s IPedge line to support voice mail survivability and to use direct cluster networking wherein every enabled node maintains a voice mail backup for each node present in the network. Toshiba touts its “advanced algorithms provide activity-based bandwidth optimization and overall voice mail reliability.”
The gateway configuration wizard for IPedge’s Enterprise Manager is now integrated with ADTRAN gateways, enabling faster setup times and ease of use. The moment the SIP trunk channel group and service definition data go into the IPedge database, IPedge’s wizard starts creating the configuration file. Another gateway configuration wizard is provided for AudioCodes gateways.
Other enhancements from Release 1.5 include a “Network DN Import/Export Wizard for importing and exporting the network DN table from Toshiba’s Strata CIX business telephone systems to IPedge systems and vice versa” and a system model pre-configuration database to make IPedge be up-and-running within minutes.
“Now with IPMobility, IPedge empowers SMBs and multi-site enterprises with the smartphone features they need to communicate more efficiently, cost effectively and reliably,” said Brian Metherell, vice president and general manager of Toshiba America Information Systems Inc., Telecommunication Systems Division.
