In mid-January 2013, both Toshiba made announcements aimed to please small to midsize businesses. Toshiba Telecommunication Systems Division revealed that it has improved its IPedge platform.
Toshiba’s IPedge series of IP business telephone systems was released in June 2012. The upgrades include the IP Mobility mobile client and visual voice mail. The IPedge 1.5 release also includes a gateway configuration wizard for ADTRAN gateways, which makes for a speedier setup and simpler installation. Once users have entered the SIP trunk channel group and service definition information in the database, the wizard automatically creates a configuration file. Toshiba can also supply a separate gateway configuration wizard tool for AudioCodes gateways.
“Now with IPMobility, IPedge empowers SMBs and multisite enterprises with the smartphone features they need to communicate more efficiently, cost effectively and reliably. Faster and easier to install, set-up, and use, IPedge Release 1.5 gives companies a robust IP telephone solution that is backed by Toshiba's best-in-class reliability,” said Brian Metherell, vice president and general manager of Toshiba America Information Systems Inc., Telecommunication Systems Division.
Toshiba has also updated its VIPedge cloud-based business telephone system. VIPedge Release 1.4 is now able to accommodate up to 500 users for both single and multiple site deployments.
“VIPedge delivers the benefits of Toshiba's on-premise VoIP system, only in a cloud solution, that provides feature transparency for up to 500 users in a single or multi-site deployment,” said Mark Carpenter, vice president of Technology and Product Management at Toshiba America Information Systems Inc., Telecommunication Systems Division. “With VIPedge, Toshiba manages the entire telephone system in the cloud, so all users have to do is answer their phones.”
Along with the expanded capacity, the new release also includes:
- Call Manager Desktop for Windows Upgrade – allows direct communication with Toshiba's Call Manager Mobile.
- Call Manager Mobile for Android – enabling Android users to take their office calls and instant message on their Android mobile phones.
- Enhanced Presence Features – enhanced presence sate information and access to Microsoft Exchange Calendar.
- Single and Group Instant Messaging – Call Manager handles single and group instant messaging sessions.
- Single Number Reach for Incoming and Outgoing Calls – Call Manager Mobile provides single number reach for both incoming and outgoing calls.
- New and Improved Dealer Portal Ordering and Provisioning Features – facilitating system ordering and activation for authorized Toshiba Dealers.
