snom technology AG, a business VoIP phone manufacturer and HP channel partner, announces that it is now selling and promoting two Lync-optimized desktop IP phones by Hewlett-Packard. Beginning June 2013, snom will market HP 4110 and HP 4120 IP phones through its distributors and resellers.

Tier 1 support for the two IP phones will be provided by HP, while snom and its partners will handle the sales and marketing aspects.

“As the market for Microsoft Lync expands, businesses require the flexibility to deploy solutions that fit their specific needs, whether that’s Lync-optimized devices or Lync-qualified devices,” said Michael Knieling, chief operating officer of snom technology AG in Berlin. “We can offer more choices to our customers, whatever their needs may be.”

Both HP 4110 and 4120 IP business telephones are optimized for Microsoft Lync, so they are made according to Lync specifications and come pre-installed with Lync software. They are also designed to work solely in a Lync unified communications environment, having been tightly integrated with Microsoft applications like the calendars and contacts features.

snom's Lync-qualified phones, on the other hand, work across a Lync environment and an IP-PBX setup. They can be customized. They are also equipped with their own firmware. However, they may possess calling features that are distinct from Microsoft Lync.

snom technology AG says that, by partnering with HP, the company can expand its enterprise capabilities and offer features that are beyond those found in Lync-qualified devices. Such features include click-to-call capability, PC/phone integration, and Lync server integrated manageability.

The two Lync-optimized HP IP desktop phones are now part of snom’s line of business phones, including the 3xx series, 7xx series, and the 8xx series UC edition phones. (KOM) Link. Link.

Seems like we see a convergence; Polycom Optimized and Qualified through VVX; snom Optimized (HP) and qualified with 7xx/8xx series tel. Where does this leave Aastra? They chose not to participate in the 3PIP program.
