Riverbed Collaborates with AWS on Enterprise Cloud Data Protection by UCStrategies Staff
Riverbed Technology announced its collaboration agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to distribute data protection and cloud performance solutions to business customers.
The terms of the agreement between the two companies detailed how Riverbed’s wide area network (WAN) optimization, cloud storage gateways, application delivery, and web application firewall security solutions were combined with the flexible subscription pricing scheme of AWS, allowing enterprise customers to install and scale within the confines of Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) environments.
Amazon Web Services is said to offer scalable and low-cost infrastructure platform in the cloud that is used by hundreds of thousands of business customers in 190 countries around the world.
To mark this collaboration, Riverbed Technology displayed its portfolio of cloud performance solutions at AWS’ first global customer and partner conference. The conference was dubbed re:Invent, and it was held at the Venetian Hotel, Las Vegas, on November 27 - 29, 2012.
The following Riverbed products are made available in the AWS cloud: Cloud Steelhead WAN optimization, Whitewater cloud storage gateway, Stingray Traffic Manager, Stingray Aptimizer, and Stingray Application Firewall.
Cloud Steelhead WAN optimization contains transparent interception and portal-based management system said to enable businesses to install and scale within EC2 and VPC environments. Whitewater cloud storage gateway, on the other hand, is Riverbed’s solution for eliminating dependence on tape-based data protection systems and providing business with quick access to Amazon’s cloud storage without changes to their existing backup infrastructure. The Stingray line is said to allow enterprise customers to deploy an application delivery controller (ADC) solution with Web content optimization (WCO) and Web application firewall (WAF) security capabilities.
“The Riverbed performance solutions are addressing enterprise customer needs as they embark on public cloud deployments in Amazon EC2 and S3,” said Venugopal Pai, vice president of Global Alliances and Business Development. “Our solutions enable enterprises that have deployed applications in the public cloud to provide a consistent user experience and increase the recoverability of their data, while reducing costs of IT infrastructure.”
“ESG research indicates that both enterprise and mid-market organizations are increasing their use of public clouds like Amazon EC2 and S3,” said Bob Laliberte, senior analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group. “However, to ensure these cloud services meet or exceed SLAs, organizations will require technologies to address core performance challenges associated with distance and latency. Partnerships like the one between Amazon and Riverbed serve as an example of how organizations can mitigate the risk from these challenges and enable fast, reliable, secure, and simple access to the public cloud.” (KOM) Link.
