PCN Releases UltraEdge System for VoIP and UC Deployment
PCN Releases UltraEdge System for VoIP and UC Deployment by UCStrategies Staff
PCN, a connectivity solutions provider based in San Diego, introduces its UltraEdge System designed to configure legacy copper wiring for cost-effective deployment of voice over internet protocol (VoIP) and unified communications (UC) data networks. The offering is said to eliminate the high costs of rewiring existing legacy lines with data-grade Cat 5/6 cabling.
PCN has patented what the company labels as “Dynamic Adaptive Channeling” data prioritization algorithms, the same algorithms used to run UltraEdge. The UltraEdge System is touted to run 500 times per second in real-time monitoring, scanning, and managing the physical layer of legacy cabling. PCN’s connectivity solution is said to seek anomalies in the copper cabling’s physical layer and to move IP data to an optimum location in the wire.
PCN’s new offering contains one Ethernet connection to access the internet and outside data networks. And at every edge, it allows access and transport for IP device connectivity. The company also claims that the installation only necessitates limited IT knowledge.
Using any grade copper, the UltraEdge VoIP system is said to readily interface with existing wiring infrastructure like junction boxes and legacy PBX consoles. In addition, PCN’s new offering supports third-party standard Layer 2 and Layer 3 Ethernet switching, QoS, and various network security features like SSH and SSL for encryption, port security, multi-level passwords, and DoD protections.
Claimed by PCN to be a true IP networked solution, the UltraEdge VoIP system works with PCN3485-MCS4, PCN’s 19-inch rack mount multichannel server, for 10/100 IP transport to every PCN3485-SCC1 UltraEdge module allowing access to VoIP-enabled phones or devices. Each UltraEdge module (PCN3485-SCC1) serves as an Ethernet switch. Each end point of that switch has access to a maximum of three Ethernet RJ45 ports.
According to Jeff Davis, vice president of Sales at PCN, the company offers the UltraEdge VoIP and UC systems and services mainly to large enterprise customers, system integrators, and qualified network providers. Davis also went on to say that PCN ensures to tell their business customers that the UltraEdge solution not only solves the IP integration issue with legacy cabling of any wiring topology but lets them use their existing analog and digital solutions until the whole IP integration is completed.
In related news, PCN rolled out a special purposed packaged system designed to support OEMs, integrators, and end customers whose Serial data networks have been compromised by electrical surges and salt water floods in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. By configuring existing copper cabling, the special purposed packaged system is said to enable fast connectivity and re-commission the affected control and automation networks. (KOM) Link
