NEC Signs Deal to Provide NSW Police with Data and Voice Support by UCStrategies Staff
NEC signed a multi-million dollar deal to secure and provide data and voice network systems for the police force of New South Wales (NSW). The terms of the contract give NEC the responsibility of handling and managing both the data network and the call center of the NSW Police Force. The technical support and maintenance of the Australian police department’s data communications and voice network will also be run and overseen by NEC.
For many years, NEC administered the voice communications network of the NSW police department. As of October, 2012, the Japanese information technology service and network solutions provider would also be handling NSW Police Force’s data communications framework.
The regional and municipal police departments across five hundred locations in New South Wales will all be serviced and managed by a wide array of NEC communications technologies, including a private branch exchange (PBX) system, Genesys call center network, Cisco call managers, IP networks, and Cisco-powered switches, routers, and firewalls.
Sam Iacono, NEC New South Wales sales manager for Unified Communications, said that NEC was proud to announce that the company would be continuing its successful eight-year association with the Australian Police Force.
Iacono detailed that in 1990, NEC had successfully instigated a network operations base. Nine years after that, the company then established a multi-vendor system. This new prospect with the Australian police force’s data communications system is just another springboard for NEC’s future technical capabilities.
NEC clinched the NSW deal by way of an open tender. The contract will run for a three-year period with an added clause of acquiring an extension for two more years. The Japan-based communications technology conglomerate began its duties for the Australian government agency in early October, 2012. This was right after the three-month transitional period from NSW Police Force’s previous supplier.
The Australian police department requires consistency and uptime because the data and voice communications systems cover both the 000 Support Center and the Police Assistance Line, two important trunk lines that take in emergency calls from Australian citizens.
