MobileIron, the mobile device management provider, announced that the company now supports Windows Phone 8 applications and devices. It also offers mobile application management (MAM) capabilities on Windows 8 as it does for other operating systems. This means that IT teams that use MobileIron’s services can then include Windows 8 devices in their mobile environments. The same can be said for mobile workforce systems. There is no need to use additional third-party tools to manage and secure Windows 8 apps and devices.

In addition, MobileIron business customers who are upgrading to Windows 8 can also benefit from the company’s policy, certificate, enrollment, and selective wipe capabilities for its various mobile device management solutions.

MobileIron uses a cloud-based mobile device management software in order to save and secure its business customers’ vital information. The cloud environment eliminates possible issues that may arise when saving confidential personnel data.

In a statement, Bob Tinker, CEO of MobileIron, described Windows Phone 8 as a new step in mobile communications. “Microsoft, working with partners like Nokia, has created an incredibly innovative user experience. Our customers are thrilled that they will be able to secure and manage Windows Phone 8 apps and devices through MobileIron,” Tinker went on to say.

Eric Hermelee, Senior Director of Windows Phone, said that smartphones are becoming a part of the workforce environment, and Windows Phone 8 is a great choice because IT departments can readily integrate Windows 8 apps and devices into their existing mobile management solutions. “By working with MobileIron, we can provide a complete solution for the mobile enterprise. Users can take advantage of the new Outlook and Office Mobile collaboration and productivity tools built into Windows Phone 8 and Mobile IT can secure the data and protect user privacy,” Hermelee said.

David Mason, head of Business Mobility Marketing at Nokia, remarked that enterprises are required to provide access to phones and applications that employees want to use for their personal needs. The main challenge that Mason sees is for enterprises to combine those employee needs with a communications platform that can also provide an enterprise application delivery and security for sensitive company data. “The introduction of the Nokia Lumia 920, the world’s most innovative smartphone, and the Nokia Lumia 820, brings innovation like wireless charging to mid-tier price points, provides employees with leading smartphone experiences, while Windows Phone 8 provides the reassurance that enterprises require,” Mason said.
