Mitel Releases UC360 Collaboration Point
Mitel Releases UC360 Collaboration Point by Robbie Pleasant
Mitel has introduced the Mitel UC360 Collaboration Point, a device for the personal office meeting space. This all-in-one multimedia collaboration appliance was created in response to demand for easy and cost-effective collaboration tools, and combines multi-party HD video and audio, in-room presentation display, and document sharing for remote participants.
Mitel UC360 has simple touch-screen controls for easy setup and deployment. With it, collaboration can happen at any time, rather than at a pre-scheduled event in a reserved conference room. It's based on MItel's Freedom architecture, and designed to industry standards. It works with leading video collaboration, telepresence, audio conferencing, and IP-PBX solutions, and is priced at under $2,000.
Blair Pleasant of UCStrategies notes, “Mitel recognized that there was a gap between expensive room-based videoconferencing systems and individual desktop video capabilities. Aimed at small groups that need to collaborate, the device can be deployed throughout an organization to be used on a regular basis, so that video becomes more commonplace and not just reserved for special occasions.” She adds, “What’s really attractive is the ‘disruptive’ price tag, with audio, video and document collaboration available for under $2000. While the initial version is missing some functionality that I’d like to see, such as integration with Mitel’s UC products to display the presence status of colleagues from the device when contacting them for a video session, the product is very easy to use, with a nice visual interface.”
