EMC Develops New Cloud Storage Partnerships
EMC Develops New Cloud Storage Partnerships by UCStrategies Staff
EMC is making changes to its Velocity Service Provider Program by creating varied differentials between cloud service providers and allowing the program to be more appealing to traditional service providers who seek to adopt some of the offerings made available by EMC and its service providers.
According to the senior director of global alliances and service providers, Michelle De Hertogh, these improvements are being made in order to expand its number of cloud service providers and their ability to effectively and efficiently serve customers. De Hertogh said: “Our go-to-market focus is with service providers. EMC decided to not stand-up a cloud. So we need partners.”
By offering program participants additional cloud solutions and reference architectures, such as Backup-as-a-Service and Storage-as-a-Service (SaaS), EMC seeks to catch the attention of other cloud service providers.
Backup-as-a-Service adopts EMC's Avamar backup management software to allow for the development of managed, hosted, or replicated backup solutions for the cloud. A secure cloud storage solution with enterprise-class security is offered by the SaaS in partnership with Oxygen Cloud, which is based in Redwood City, California. Oxygen Cloud offers private storage cloud technology and this consequentially enables business file accessibility via mobile on local and cloud storage.
EMC, in its Velocity Service Provider Program, is seeking to triple its number of service providers, opening the doors to partners to apply for membership as well as sending out invites. “We'll make it clear to partners what they need to do to join, how they can qualify, and what benefits they get,” said De Hertogh.
Current solution providers of EMC's Velocity Solution Provider Partner program will additionally be invited to join the Velocity Service Provider Program for the first time.
De Hertogh said: “For VARs who aren't interested in standing up their own cloud, but who have customers looking at cloud services, we'll help them resell the service from our other VSSPs. Also, we'll help our services providers build their own reseller programs for VARs. That is not something services providers will be required to do. But we run channels well. For those services providers who want to run a VAR program, we will help them.”
Through making these adjustments to the Velocity Service Provider Program, EMC wishes to showcase to its partners what is available before they officially launch the program in January; this will ensure that partners are not surprised by the new release and fully aware of all that EMC can offer them.
