100 GB Free Cloud Backup From EVault by UCStrategies Staff

San Francisco-based EVault, a business cloud storage provider, has announced that it will offer the IT industry’s largest provision of free cloud backups to date: 100 GB to users in business, and this will be available for as long as they need it.

New businesses signing up to EVault prior to December 31st will receive the offer of 100 GB of free cloud backup, and this can be utilized to protect files and folders for a single Windows-based server.

Three daily backups are also available to users of the free service.

According to the senior director of product marketing for the company, Karen Jaworski, the offer enables channel partners of the company to experiment with the service and to see if new opportunities are available to them.

Jaworski added that all EVault business is conducted through channel partners, with the exception of certain legacy direct customers.

Jaworski said: “With the free cloud backup service, we wanted to make it easy for our partners to demonstrate how easy backup to the cloud is. There's been a tipping point to the cloud as seen by the pricing wars between Amazon and Google this week. It's not a question of if; it's a question of when.”

It is also possible for customers to enroll directly onto Evault's free cloud backup service, according to Jaworski.

She said: “We give them the full service experience. When they sign up, one of our fulfilment engineers will call them up and get them started. We're aware of our partner relationships, so as customers' needs grow and they want to sign up for more services, we bring in the partner. This is a very easy way for people to get acquainted with the service.”

Although free cloud storage and free cloud backups are rather common in the industry, the EVault offer is somewhat unique.

Many providers of cloud storage offer between 2 GB and 10 GB of free capacity; Google, Amazon and other providers offer 5 GB for free, and these offers are aimed at meeting consumer customer’s needs.

One of the biggest offers at present times is the provision of free cloud storage from MediaFire, a company providing cloud storage that is based in Shenandoah, Texas. 50 GB of free cloud storage is offered by MediaFire, but users of the free service must put up with a plethora of advertising, and retention of data is limited.

Jaworski of EVault said that prior to the 100 GB free cloud backup offer, partners of EVault could provide licenses or capacity to customers for the purposes of demonstration.

Additionally, Jaworski stated that smalls businesses would be able to run backup infrastructure via the free service, “But only if it were a super-small shop. We're ready to help them as they grow up.”

EVault charges 75 to 85 cents per GB of backup capacity per month for the typical business. This price is not inclusive of bare metal recovery, heterogeneous storage, a full year backup retention, and the backing up of servers – as needed by the customer. These features and more are not available with the free offer, according to Jaworski. (CY) Link
