Xeround Cloud Database Service to Terminate
Xeround Cloud Database Service to Terminate by UCStrategies Staff
Free and paid cloud database services from Xeround are being discontinued, which means that many of the company’s customers are seeking other alternatives.
The CEO of Xeround, Razi Sharir, was unable to provide specific information, but pointed to the company’s blogpost stating that “Xeround's leadership forum has recently decided to re-focus the company's effort.”
Sharir added that “There is nothing else to disclose at this time,” in response to queries behind the shutdown and the company’s next steps.
A paid cloud database service for MySQL applications and a free 10MB version of the service for users of the Rackspace Cloud, Joyent Cloud and HP Cloud Services, were provided by Xeround.
Xeround also noted that all free database instances will end from May 8, and paid plans will be discontinued on May 15. The blog added: “Xeround's leadership forum has recently decided to re-focus the company’s effort. This means we will no longer be able to support our service over public clouds, across all of our currently active data centers.”
The blog also stated: “We ask you to please export your database instance and migrate your database to another service of your choosing before the termination date. We sincerely appreciate the support that our thousands of customers have shown us over the last couple of years. We regret the inconvenience this causes you, and hope your migration to a new DB solution goes smoothly.”
Tweets were also published on the company’s feed, including one which read: “With a grave heart we announce the termination of our public service. big thanks 2 all our users for the overwhelming support :-(.” Tweets also noted that customers with paid subscriptions will only be billed until April for the service.
One respondent to the tweets said: “Understandable that companies sometimes need to 're-focus efforts' and discontinue service, but seems like pretty short notice, no?”
Xeround has research and development operations in Yehud, Israel, and is presently based in Mountain View, California. (CY) Link
