Visage Infographic Reveals the Hidden Costs of BYOD by UCStrategies Staff

Mobile management vendor Visage Mobile released an infographic that shows the hidden costs of employee mobility. For instance, 15 percent of a worker’s business phone bill goes to non-business-related expenses, such as unapproved apps, premium text services, and ring tones. High roaming charges and downloads of sexting apps are also identified among the various hidden costs companies pay for.

Between January and April 2013, data from 180 companies were collected by Visage. The resulting infographic can aid companies in pinpointing the hidden costs and potential pitfalls of BYOD.

On top of increased spending for data security, IT support, wireless infrastructure upgrade, mobile device management implementation, and device disposal, BYOD also brings in an onslaught of financial consequences. For instance, 10 percent of all corporate downloads are premium text services like celebrity news alerts and horoscopes, while 25 percent consist of navigation apps. One percent of corporate downloads include hookup and sexting apps, the likes of Mobile Love, Misty Mobile Alerts, and SexyCougars.

There’s also a mobile employee’s roaming bill to contend with. Visage estimates that every month, one in 50 enterprises can get a roaming bill worth $15,000.

Each month, Visage found out that employees download $13,640 worth of unapproved apps, premium services, and ringtones. Visage also calculated the monthly wireless spending of a mobile enterprise as $90,936 for an average of 738 employees with 1.54 devices each. As for the monthly cost of a mobile employee, Visage specified the cost to reach $123.16 for wireless. (KOM) Link. Link.
