Tech Data Corporation and ASUS are broadening their relationship in order to deploy a convertible notebook and tablet device called ASUS Taichi. There is a back-to-back dual-screen and users can alternate between tablet and notebook in a single touch, whilst also enhancing video interaction capabilities.

The vice president of product marketing for client systems at Tech Data, Greg Parsonson, said: “We are always looking to align more strategically with our vendors, and we've certainly seen a significant growth in Asus' commitment to product innovation and to the channel. We have the entire line of Asus products including their notebooks, the tablets, and now their convertible devices.”

Parsonson added that the reason why the Asus convertible appealed to Tech Data was because of the added customer value, whereby the user gets two devices in one. He added: “Our customers can get the benefits of the notebook with the flexibility and form factor of the tablet, both of which are becoming more prominent, given the capabilities of Windows 8. In addition, the real differentiator with the Taichi is the dual-screen format. So, this is an especially great option for situations that require face-to-face interaction.”

As well as Windows 8, the overall value proposition comes with an Intel Core processor and two back-to-back full HD screens.

When talking about the possibilities for the Tech Data-Asus relationship, Parsonson said: “I think this could be a great opportunity out of the gates for both Asus and Tech Data. There are two sides to Asus. They began on the component side and in recent years have demonstrated excellent innovation on the finished goods hardware side. They may not be a household name, but the products speak for themselves. They're definitely ready for prime time in the business world.”

According to ASUS, the company employes around 11,000 globally, and this includes a research  team and development engineers of 3,100 members. In 2011, the company revenue stood at $11.9 billion. (CY) Link
