Important results were announced by Infonetics Research, from their recent VOIP and UC Services and Subscribers Forecast report. Vendors like AT&T, Comcast, NTT, Shaw Communications and Time Warner Cable are addressed in the report, and the results show that the overall VoIP services market witnessed an increase of 9 percent between 2011 and 2012; this comes up to a $63 billion market for both business and residential subscribers.

Further findings from the report are that SIP Trunks increased from 2011 by 83 percent, especially in terms of multi-site business; Managed IP PBX stayed stagnant as the biggest segment overall for the business sector (which saw an increase of 9 percent from 2012); Between 2011 and 2012, there was a 17 percent increase in hosted VoIP and UC; and the three largest VoIP service providers included NTT, Comcast and France Télécom, in residential terms.

The Principal Analyst for VoIP, UC and IMS at Infonetics Research, Diane Myers, said that the report highlights some key points: “The market for VoIP services has moved well beyond the early adopter stage to mainstream status in many developed countries. New geographic regions are opening up, and SIP trunking and hosted UC continue to heat things up, fueling growth. Vendors are increasingly pitching cloud telephony and unified communications services alongside SIP trunking as more multi-site businesses seek out hybrid solutions.”

Infonetics Research, as a result, states that by 2017, the total VoIP services sector will reach $82.7 billion. (CY) Link

I must say in the past 5 years I have watched the VoIP industry go from a fad to the normal. I predict that in 10 years traditional phone lines will be a thing of the past.
