Strategy Analytics Report Reveals Leading Cloud Storage Services by UCStrategies Staff
According to Boston-based Strategy Analytics, almost half of all Americans connected to the internet have used some form of cloud storage service, the majority of whom have utilized the services of content providers like Apple, Amazon and Google.
In the Strategy Analytics survey, Apple iCloud, Dropbox, Amazon Cloud Drive and Google Drive were at the lead of the consumer cloud storage market, particularly for storing music, but also for users’ documents.
In October 2012, a similar Strategy Analytics survey of 2,285 U.S. consumers, highlighted that 45 percent of connected users made use of a cloud storage device, and around 33 percent of those had made use of one in the last week.
Twenty-seven percent of users stated that they used Apple iCloud, which is the most popular cloud service so far, followed by 17 percent, who stated they used Dropbox. Fifteen percent used Amazon Cloud Drive, and 10 percent make use of the services offered by Google Drive.
Other services like UltraViolet movie cloud, the Samsung Music Hub, OnLive, LG Cloud and Sony’s Gaikai are used by only two to four percent of respondents.
Apple, Amazon and Google services are used primarily (by 90 percent of users) to store music, and this compares with 45 percent of Dropbox users. The director of digital media for Strategy Analytics, Ed Barton, said that Dropbox recently acquired Audiogalaxy, and this will provide the company with a native audio player. (CY) Link
