Sourcefire, a provider of cybersecurity solutions, is set to be acquired by Cisco, according to an announcement made recently. Before, during and after an attack, continuous and pervasive advanced threat protection across the entire attack continuum will be offered through use of the products, technologies and research teams of both companies, and this will be available to implement from any device to any cloud.

A team with deep security DNA to Cisco will be added as a result of the acquisition of Sourcefire, and will mean that there is faster delivery of Cisco’s security strategy of defending, discovering, and remediating advanced threats. Customers will benefit from continuous security in a number of places across the network with world-class research teams, increased intelligence and expanded threat protection supporting them.

For each share of Sourcefire, Cisco will pay $76 per share in cash in return, under the terms of the agreement. The company will also assume outstanding equity awards for an aggregate purchase price of approximately $2.7 billion, and this includes retention-based incentives. The board of directors of each company has approved the acquisition. (CY) Link
