SDN Venture From Alcatel-Lucent Forthcoming by UCStrategies Staff
Nuage, a software-defined networking service, is being released by Alcatel-Lucent as it prepares to join the cloud market in the upcoming months. Nuage is expected to increase the flexibility and efficiency of data centers.
The meaning of “nuage,” in French, is “cloud.” The head of marketing at Mountain View, California-based Nuage, Houman Modarres, stated that Alcatel-Lucent was created around nine months ago and has large cloud service providers and telcos as clients.
The company is able to offer the strengthening of software-defined networking (SDN) to cloud networks which are handled more efficiently.
Networks can be programmed to work more efficiently through software-defined networking technologies, and can also work well with difficult demands of cloud data centers which deal with large server workloads.
Data centers have, until recently, not been able to meet such demands. Modarres said: “The data center needs to grow up.” The company has set its goals on offering SDN-based services for cloud infrastructure providers and telcos.
Cisco and other companies have already adopted SDN technologies, and Alcatel-Lucent is following in these steps.
Information on Nuage's services is not being released, but the company is working with customers and more news will be heard in the next three months, according to Modarres. (CY) Link
