PBX-Based Video Systems Drive Enterprise Video Market—Infonetics Says by UCStrategies Staff

Infonetics Research releases the results of its first-quarter 2013 Enterprise Telepresence and Video Conferencing Equipment market share and predictions. The market research firm reports that the sales of PBX-based video systems increased sequentially by 18 percent in 1Q13 and were up by 118 percent compared to the year-ago quarter.

“Dedicated video systems continue to struggle, but PBX-based systems are picking up the slack,” said Matthias Machowinski, directing analyst for enterprise networks and video at Infonetics Research. Machowinski explained that the decrease in sales of dedicated systems was nearly “offset by growth in PBX systems, which doubled year-over-year in the first quarter of 2013, as enterprises seek out lower-cost multimedia communication solutions.”

The Infonetics Research report also showed that, in the first quarter of 2013, Cisco remains the leading provider of videoconferencing equipment. Cisco is followed by Polycom and Huawei.

In 1Q13, the global revenue for enterprise videoconferencing and telepresence equipment and software slid to $661 million, which represented a sequential decline of 20 percent.

Sales of dedicated systems in 1Q13 dropped 26 percent from 4Q12. According to Infonetics Research, this was primarily due to the sluggish demand for immersive telepresence systems.

Posting another strong quarter, videophones topped the hardware endpoint segment with the fastest growth.

The 1Q13 market growth in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) region outdid the performance posted in North America and Asia Pacific.

Infonetics’ Enterprise Telepresence and Video Conferencing Equipment tracks and analyzes the market share of dedicated and PBX-based videoconferencing and telepresence infrastructure and endpoints, including desktop, telepresence, videophones, multipurpose rooms, and software.

Meanwhile, Infonetics Research unveiled a separate report and forecast detailing enterprise PBX spending and UC market demand in 1Q13. Also, International Data Corporation (IDC) reported another quarterly revenue decline in 1Q13 for the global enterprise videoconferencing and telepresence equipment market. (KOM) Link. Link.
