Oracle Launches New Cloud IaaS by UCStrategies Staff

A new cloud infrastructure as a service was launched by Oracle on Tuesday; it is able to be managed on-premise by companies utilizing their own private cloud.

The Oracle Infrastructure as a Service (Oracle IaaS) with Capacity of Demand was first announced by the CEO of the company, Larry Ellison, in October of last year at the OpenWorld conference in San Francisco.

Speaking at the conference, Ellison said: “True cloud means we have to own the infrastructure, we have to manage the infrastructure, [and] we have to upgrade the infrastructure.”

A cloud environment Oracle Exadata Database Machine, Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud, Oracle SPARC SuperCluster, Oracle Exalytics In-Memory Machine and Oracle Sun ZFS Storage Appliance can be deployed by businesses for a monthly fee, and this is enabled through the Oracle cloud infrastructure service.

Additionally, the cloud service can be used by businesses to control and monitor these systems within data centers, even if behind a firewall. A data sheet on the Oracle website details more information.

The senior vice president for software development at Oracle, Juan Loaiza, said: “For the first time, customers can get the unmatched performance, scalability and reliability of Oracle Engineered Systems deployed on premise, behind their firewall, for a monthly fee.”

Compute capacity on-demand will come as part of the Oracle IaaS, and this will also allow customers to provision capacity for their server workloads.

Quarterly analysis and advice from the experts at Oracle will also be provided by Oracle PlatinumPlus Services. This will allow for the evaluation of system performance, security compliance and system availability, and information and advice on how best to resolve outstanding issues. (CY) Link
