Two new iPhones will be made available on September 10 this year, according to AllThingsD, who referred to sources that are familiar with the company.

The chief technical officer of Chicago, Illinois-based service provider SRV Network, Karl Volkman, said that one of the new smartphones could be the updated iPhone, and may be called the iPhone 5S. The other may be the cheaper iPhone, or iPhone 5C.

iOS 7 is Apple’s most recent operating system, and this will be available on both phones. The operating system is currently in its Beta 3 round of developer testing and will have a number of features that are specific for enterprise use, such as the ability to separate virtual spaces for business and personal use.

Speed, camera quality and the potential inclusion of a fingerprint sensor on the home button for higher security measures will be part of the improved version of iPhone 5. Volkman said: “Hopefully, Apple can provide this without any technical problems like in previous years.”

Some state that Apple’s resistance is due to high prices, but the unveiling of the budget iPhone may create a new set of Apple fanatics, according to Volkman.

He noted: “As Apple continues to try and maintain their status as the leader in smartphones, diversifying pricing is one way to bring a new set of customers on board.”

Apple's Q3 earnings report show a 22 percent year-over-year drop in profit, and is one piece of evidence feeding Apple users and investors' concern that the company has been lacking in innovation.

The new announcement regarding the smartphone release is expected to create a stir among Apple enthusiasts. (CY) Link
