Mobile Solutions from IBM’s MobileFirst Portfolio by UCStrategies Staff

A range of mobile solutions under “MobileFirst” have been released by IBM. Yesterday, the announcement came that a variety of IBM software products and services under MobileFirst will take mobile security, analytics and application development software into consideration. Cloud-based services and mobile services will also be a component of the service. IBM is currently seeking to strengthen its presence in the mobile solutions market, and the introduction of MobileFirst will aid in meeting that end.

The vice president of marketing, IBM Mobile and Business Integration Software, Kristen Lauria, stated: “IBM continues to shift to higher growth plays where we see double-digit growth. Mobile is one of those areas, and IBM sees it as a cross-company play – software, services, everything – as well as transformational for clients' business models.”

Stand-alone products are not included in the MobileFirst portfolio, but many enhanced and optimized editions of other IBM Software products are included, as well as brand-new mobile-focused services.

The IBM MobileFirst Platform comes as part of the MobileFirst portfolio, and this includes a broader version of IBM Worklight, single sign-on capabilities for several applications and new beta for Rational Test Workbench for mobile app testing. Additionally, a new version of AppScan, which has been updated from IBM EndPoint Manager makes available the MobileFirst Security used for scanning application vulnerabilities over the main mobile operating systems. Improved support for BYOD programs in the enterprise is also available through an updated version of IBM EndPoint Manager, and an improved edition of IBM’s Tealeaf CX Mobile called MobileFirst Analytics offers considerations of mobile users’ behavior.

In addition to IBM Software products, cloud and managed services for deploying mobile solutions is included through the MobileFirst portfolio, and clients are also able to create and release effective mobile strategies through the MobileFirst Strategy and Design Services. Mobile infrastructures and managing mobile applications will be made possible through the MobileFirst Development and Integration Services, and mobile-optimized network integration and performance are afforded through the MobileFirst Enhanced Network Infrastructure Services.

Further, to IBM’s announcement of the release of MobileFirst solutions, a new partnership with AT&T has been established, and is focused on application development. IBM Worklight can also be used by software developers to access AT&T APIs in the cloud. The Ready for MobileFirst program was also rolled out by IBM and is aimed at seeking out ISVs interested in embedding mobile technologies to their products. (CY) Link
