Mitel Releases Applications Suite 4.0 by Robbie Pleasant

Mitel has revealed the latest version of the Mitel Applications Suite, its flagship UC offering, available as a virtualized solution. MAS 4.0 is based on Mitel's Freedom Architecture, and addresses several problems IT organizations and business users face, while allowing companies to design their solutions according to their communication needs.

The new Mitel offering has web-based collaboration and mobility solutions, as well as a single application interface for easy communication and collaboration over a variety of locations and devices. Also made available is secure instant messaging and dynamic presence on mobile devices through Unified Communicator Advanced Mobile, Mitel's mobile client software for Android and Blackberry, with Apple iOS availability coming soon.

Among the new features for IT are simplified administration, extended virtualization, and increased scalability. It offers support for up to 1,500 users, and can be deployed alongside other business applications in the data center.

Blair Pleasant of UCStrategies notes, “A lot of the feedback that customers have given to Mitel about UC in general is that it has to be easy, otherwise end-users simply won't use the tools provided. This release makes UC easier for customers and IT. For IT managers, MAS 4.0 provides consolidated solutions managed and provisioned from a single interface. For end users, the Unified Communicator Advanced client provides a single client for accessing the various UC capabilities provided.” Pleasant adds, “The new clientless Mitel Collaboration Advanced makes it easier for people to collaborate on the web without having to download a client – guests can attend a session by going to a URL with their browser. Again, the focus is simplicity, and this is a simpler way for people to join conferences.”
