Microsoft Acquires Skype Management Technology From Event Zero by Robbie Pleasant

Microsoft’s latest purchase is another step to enhancing the Skype for Business experience, with the purchase of the technology assets underlying Event Zero’s UC Commander product suite. With this purchase, Microsoft has obtained new technology assets, which it intends to use to expand and improve the management tools that are built in to Skype for Business Online in Office 365.

Event Zero is a provider of management software for Skype for Business Online, which makes the acquisition a natural decision for Microsoft. It uses analytics based on user experiences, including operational insights, and provides actionable intelligence to administrators and IT regarding the Lync and Skype for Business environments.

Now that Microsoft has obtained Event Zero’s technology, it intends to integrate the monitoring, reporting, and analytics capabilities with the Skype for Business Online management tools. This adds new diagnostics and troubleshooting capabilities, including extensive reporting and analytics for audio, video, and media streams over the Internet. All these capabilities will be available from a unified management and admin system, easily accessible from within Skype.

“There has been confusion around this technology acquisition,” explains Kevin Kieller, UC Expert for UCStrategies. “Event Zero as a company will continue to exist. Microsoft has stated that it plans to use the reporting and analytics technologies purchased from Event Zero to enhance the Office 365 Skype for Business online reporting. Organizations that are running on-premises Skype for Business and looking for strong call quality diagnostics and reporting should continue to evaluate UC Commander from Event Zero as a solution.”

Kevin adds: “Overall this technology acquisition further demonstrates Microsoft’s commitment to continue to enhance and improve Skype for Business as a core component in the strong Office 365 solution set.”
