On Tuesday last week, Apple’s iCloud had an outage which affected a range of services. Since then, an array of problems have been reported by users, such as issues signing onto the system, accessing email, accessing iTunes, and a range of other functions.

Problems with the company’s ID sign-on, GameCenter, the iTunes store and account sign-in have been acknowledged by Apple, but by noon Eastern time (that day), the status page of the company noted that the majority of those affected services had been fixed.

Failures in authentication were experienced by users that were trying to access the services. Furthermore, although users have been affected, according to Apple’s status page, but there are no details on particular numbers.

The Apple outage has not made much of a mark on business-critical applications, except for email, and it is believed that in general, cloud outages can result in a number of customer issues, which can require the immediate attention of channel partners.

The director of operations at Chantill, Virginia-based CWPS, said: “There are some services for which I have workarounds, and other services for which I don't have workarounds. When things like that happen, we typically get a lot of calls. In fact, they pretty much call us for everything. But a lot of times, we are the ones who end up calling the customers because we do a lot of proactive monitoring of the systems. So sometimes we are aware of the outage before they are.”

There have been a variety of service interruptions over the last few weeks in relation to Apple’s iCloud. (CY) Link
