Fonality Upgrades IP-PBX Solution to CentOS 6.3 by UCStrategies Staff
Fonality announces that it has upgraded its IP-PBX solution, trixbox Pro, to the latest version of CentOS. Upgrading trixbox Pro to CentOS 6.3 would enable Fonality’s channel partners selling the company’s business phones and contact center solutions to offer additional CentOS-based selections, such as cards, drivers, and servers, to their business customers. In short, additional hardware alternatives based on CentOS will be made available to Fonality’s channel partners because of the upgrade.
Fonality touts to have specifically designed its business-grade phone and contact center systems for small and mid-sized businesses. In 2012, trixbox Pro has been instrumental in growing Fonality’s channel business “by double digits.” According to Fonality, trixBox Pro is a solution equipped with a cloud-based control panel (plus supplementary collaboration and UC services) and the hardware onto which it is built is obtained by the reseller hosted on the customer’s premises.
At Fonality’s blog, Randy Hurn wrote about the reason the company chose CentOS 6.3. Hurn claimed that it had to do with Fonality’s focus on the cloud and the development of hybrid-hosted technology. Also, in the North American Linux user base, CentOS has gained more popularity than Debian.
“By transitioning to the latest version of CentOS, we give our partners greater choice with respect to hardware and an opportunity to increase their margins when sourcing less-expensive hardware,” said David Scult, CEO of Fonality. “Expanding the compatibility of trixbox Pro with the latest server and driver support means that more resellers in the United States and internationally can offer our unique, hybrid-hosted IP-PBX software.”
In a prepared statement, David Chernay, president of CNS Planet, lauded trixbox Pro and Fonality’s move to upgrade it to CentOS 6.3. “The solution is extremely customer- and partner-friendly, allowing us to provide a superior customer support experience,” Chernay said. “And with the upgrades to the latest version of CentOS, we are able to source additional hardware, which in turn lowers our hard costs and increases the solution’s overall margin.” (KOM) Link.
