A small, privately held technology company, Exceptional Cloud Services, will be acquired by Rackspace Hosting, reports indicate. The former provides cloud-related development tools from its San Francisco base, and the acquisition will be strengthened by the broadening range of developer solutions.

The director of corporate development and strategy at Rackspace, Bret Piatt, said: “Today, there is nearly an infinite number of client device configurations that will be accessing any given Web application. You can't really test for everything that you are going to see out in the real world. So, developers need to be able to catch all the exceptions and errors in an efficient manner so that they can fix the problems quickly and easily.”

Exceptional.io and Airbrake.io are two products which will be acquired through the agreement, and will both be utilized to detect problems in Web applications so that developers will be able to fix those issues which may not necessarily be noticed before the launch.

Piatt said: “[Exceptional Cloud Services'] team shares a common vision and culture. We are very committed to the open cloud and open systems. In the long term, we believe that open systems innovate more quickly and produce better quality outcomes. And, their product solves a real need in a quality way.”

The third key product purchased in this deal is San Antonio-based Redis To Go’s Redis instances. Redis To Go will most likely be merged with the hosting provider’s MongoDB database-as-a-service provision from ObjectRocket, which was purchased by Rackspace earlier in the year. The net result will mean that developers will be able to access MongoDB data at high speed, and also offer extra help for lists, hashes and sorts.

Piatt noted: “If you need a super-fast low-latency data access, you can pair Mongo and Redis together. You can render a view out of the Mongo data store into Redis to improve the overall speed at which the views can be rendered to the users.”

The details of the agreement were not disclosed and Piatt added: “We are creating services that allow developers to more easily and rapidly create applications. We will provide end-to-end visibility across the cloud environment, which is critically important.” (CY) Link
