Digium Announces New HD Touchscreen IP Phone by Robbie Pleasant
While high definition (HD) touchscreen IP phones have typically been an expensive investment, that may no longer be the case, following an announcement from Digium. The company has announced the release of a new phone, the Digium D80, which boasts all the features and quality of a typical IP phone at an affordable price point.
The Digium D80 is designed to be completely touch-driven on a high definition screen. It supports up to 100 Rapid Dial Keys/Busy Lamp Fields/Status Indicators, with access to phone applications such as visual voicemail, user presence, visual call parking, and intelligent contacts, along with robust call handling. It’s made to complement the user’s environment, and provides support for wideband (HD) audio, electronic hook switch (EHS) headsets, and gigabit Ethernet.
Additionally, the D80 offers full integration with Asterisk with DPMA version 3.4, Switchvox version 6.3.5, and Switchvox Cloud. For Switchvox Cloud (Digium’s hosted UC solution), the D80 will be available at $16 a month, although that does require a three-year contract.
Digium boasts that the D80 offers much more affordability than competing IP phones. When it hits the market this March, the D80 will be available at $329, putting it at what Digium claims to be market-leading price.
According to UCStrategies Expert Blair Pleasant, “Despite the years of predicting that the desk phone will go away, we find that many customers still prefer a hard phone over a softphone and headsets on their desk, and HD phones are still doing well. By offering a touchscreen IP phone at a low price point, Digium is making it easier for businesses to access key telephony and UC capabilities, with the added benefit of HD audio.”
