Desktone Extends Cloud-Hosted Desktop Platform by UCStrategies Staff
By adding a new on-premises cloud-managed virtual desktop solution, Desktone has broadened the reach of its cloud-hosted desktop platform. Cloud Provider manages the offering remotely, and is situated at the customer site, providing enterprises and SMBs the choice of the best cloud model to suit their business: public, private, or hybrid.
Desktone provides a higher level of flexibility as a result of the new offering, and allows customers to choose from a variety of different desktop options such as Microsoft RDS, VDI, and Remote Apps, over the public private and hybrid cloud environments; this eradicates the limitations imposed by traditional VDI deployments.
The research manager at IDC Client Virtualization Software, Brett Waldman, said: “With the recent rise of public cloud hosted virtual desktops, businesses have had a hard time choosing whether to adopt virtual desktops as a service or on-premises. Depending on the use case, one model may be more appropriate than the other. However, a hybrid approach like Desktone's allows companies to deploy desktops in a way that makes most sense for a particular set of users, while leaving time-consuming infrastructure management to their Service Provider.”
Service providers are also able to distribute virtual desktops in the customer’s data center with desktone’s on-premises, cloud-managed virtual desktop solution. It is also able to manage provisioning and ongoing management remotely. The improvements to Desktone also mean that the offering now has unique multi-tenancy and multi-data center capabilities, and service providers are able to securely manage virtual desktops for several customers with a single platform. IT will also be able to add, remove and edit virtual desktops easily, regardless of location.
The enterprise and SMB/ Branch Office configurations consist of leveraged private cloud infrastructure as a service (IaaS) or the use of Desktone blueprint, which also comes with a range of server hardware, storage and desktop virtualization software. A pre-configured all-in-one virtual desktop appliance can also be distributed by SMBs and branch office deployments, and GreenByte’s vIO virtual storage can also be a part of this, as can compute and desktop virtualization software.
Dell, Fujitsu, Time Warner Cable, Marunbeni, Kumo and Dimension Data are examples of some cloud providers that have chosen the Desktone Platform to provide hosted desktops and apps as a cloud service because of its unique features which means that the easiest-to-deploy and lowest-cost virtual desktops are distributed in the market.
