Cisco has recently announced its acquisition of Versly, a privately-held company that integrates collaboration capabilities into Microsoft Office applications.

As collaboration is one of Cisco's top priorities, this acquisition will provide Cisco and its partners with more opportunities to provide enhanced collaboration solutions. Versly's software will be integrated into a wide range of Cisco's collaboration offerings, such as Cisco Quad and Cisco Jabber.

"Cisco’s acquisition of Versly is move about acquiring skills than the product, according to an analyst briefing by Cisco," says David H. Yedwab. "The ability to add the ability to collaborate on Office documents, including Word and Outlook into Cisco’s collaboration offers – WebEx, Quad and Jammer – could be interesting as multi-media collaboration grows in the 'Post PC Era.'”

According to Marty Parker, co-founder of UCStrategies, “Cisco’s acquisition of Versly is clearly focused on better integration of Cisco Unified Communications and Collaboration with Microsoft Office. Most business collaboration is based on shared information and documents (posts on UCStrategies and NoJitter). Versly offers Cisco a connection of the Cisco UC platform to Microsoft’s leading business platform for document creation and editing. This is a realistic move by Cisco.”

The financial terms of the transaction have yet to be disclosed. For more information, visit www.cisco.com
