Avaya Launches New Version of Session Border Controller for Enterprises by UCStrategies Staff
Avaya announces the release of the new version of its session border controller for enterprise (SBCE), which works with the Avaya Aura platform. The new SBC features upgraded security for collaboration that is targeted to businesses employing remote and mobile workers, as well as companies that institute BYOD programs. The enhanced security also covers Avaya Flare Experience on iPad plus one-X Mobile applications for the iPhone.
Avaya touts that its SBCE offers “secure SIP trunking and VPN-less mobile workforce protection on next-generation collaboration networks.” The VPN-less capability enables users to have a secure phone or softphone that authenticates to an IP address on an SBCE without having to go through a virtual private network (VPN). Avaya claims that this lessens operational costs. For one, there is no need to put up a VPN. The usage of the IP address is also optimized.
The secure session initiation protocol (SIP) trunking and SIP-based mobile applications that go with Avaya’s new session border controller allow enterprises to enjoy the advantages of SIP with better protection. With an open-standards method in running flexible architectures, SIP is able to extend various UC features more efficiently to remote workers. And as businesses develop their collaboration, the new Avaya SBCE protects SIP traffic that goes in and out of a particular network. Avaya also says that its new SBCE helps companies counteract growing threats, such as viruses, configuration errors, and Denial of Service (DoS) attacks, while meeting security compliance guidelines.
“Advancements in enterprise collaboration are taking off, and with an Avaya Aura platform in place, businesses can accelerate their own collaboration evolution with speed and simplicity,” said Gary E. Barnett, senior vice president and general manager of Collaboration Platforms at Avaya, in a prepared statement. “But with threats to networks on the rise, the need to take action on security is essential. The Avaya SBCE brings the rock-solid security needed to ensure business collaboration and mobility initiatives are strengthened and protected against those with malicious intent.” (KOM) Link. Link.
