AGC Acquisition of Transcend Marks Yet Another Move Within UC Sphere by UCStrategies Staff

Transcend United Technologies is being acquired by global technology solution provider AGC Networks; this has been confirmed by both companies. The deal comes as yet another in a chain of mergers and acquisitions within the Unified Communications (UC) sphere, and more specifically, within the Avaya channel.

Neither company commented on the details of the deal, but both highlighted that a boost in their competitive edge will be noted, especially in the UC space. It will also position them both in an ideal place in terms of providing opportunity for development.

The move will assist in aiding the U.S. market growth of AGC Networks. The president of AGC Networks’ Americas unit, Greg Forrest, said: “[AGC Networks] is a company that has been really successful in primarily southern Asia, and when they look at their growth opportunities, they see this very large sandbox of IT spend, which is the U.S. The U.S. represents a significant amount of IT spend. So, for AGC, this [acquisition] is a great opportunity for us to grow our territory.”

According to the CEO of Transcend, Rick Hirsh, the deal also marks an opportunity for Transcend in terms of tapping into financial and other resources for development, which may not have been noted in any other sense.

Hirsh said: “We go together very well,” commenting on AGC, which, like Transcend, is a partner of Avaya and ShoreTel. He added: “We have had a very aggressive growth curve in the U.S., and we needed more financial resources. If you're going to achieve scale, you need resources to do that.”

The UC space will also provide great opportunity for Transcend (as a result of its acquisition), and will allow the company to simultaneously remain rooted in both the ShoreTel and Avaya sides of its business.

Hirsh stated: “First and foremost, I think it's a UC strengthener. That's where most of our focus is, and AGC has been equally UC-weighted.”

Further to UC, both AGC and Transcend are paying careful attention to data center networking and infrastructure, and Hirsh noted that the deal will not have much impact on existing Transcend United employees or customers. Despite this, the Transcend United brand will be integrated into AGC Networks.’

Both the UC and Avaya channel have witnessed various solution provider mergers and acquisitions throughout the last few years, and many of these have included Transcend. In recent times, Transcend purchased the converged networking business unit of Columbus, Ohio-based Relational Technology Solutions. (CY) Link
