200 Members Strong: Metro Ethernet Forum
200 Members Strong: Metro Ethernet Forum by UCStrategies Staff
As most organizations strive to achieve a large and ever-growing membership base, it comes as no surprise that milestones are to be celebrated along the way. For the Metro Ethernet Forum, their celebration arrives in the form of making the 200-member mark.
This global organization aims to speed up the adoption of Carrier-class Ethernet services and networks around the world. It works on the development of technical specifications and implementation agreements of Carrier Ethernet for the purpose of providing interoperability and use of Carrier Ethernet worldwide.
The group was formed 11 year ago and officially celebrated their 200th member company this last December. The Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) now has more than 150 equipment venders and service providers who are certified to Carrier Ethernet 1.0. Moreover, MEF Carrier Ethernet Certified Professionals now number over 300 and is expected to triple that number within the next year.
According to the Metro Ethernet Forum president, Nan Chen, “it has been a great 12 months for the MEF. Our growing, global membership base demonstrates the industry’s commitment to the globalization and success of standardized Carrier Ethernet Services. It also gives us the critical mass to pursue our goals aggressively, being a solid foundation for migration to our recently announced CE 2.0 and CE 2.0 Certification flagship initiatives.”
More recent developments at the MEF this year included demonstrations of their new Carrier Ethernet 2.0 services directed towards private cloud environments and using in backhaul services for mobile. This powerful and standardized technology has the potential to raise the bar of telecommunications with its efficiency and capability. Carrier Ethernet 2.0 is just one of the elements that should make for another exciting year for the Metro Ethernet Forum. (RP) Link
