Avaya Releases New Outsourcing Solutions by Robbie Pleasant

Avaya Communications has recently introduced a new set of outsourcing services for unified communication, contact centers, and more. This new offer, the Avaya Communications Outsourcing Solutions (COS), is designed to help companies increase performance, reduce costs, and accelerate the transformation of communications environments.

Avaya COS is part of its portfolio of Managed Services, letting Avaya take the wheel for managing a business's communications infrastructure and applications. It's a fully-outsourced offering, providing custom solutions and comprehensive management of a company’s whole communications environment, including unified communications, contact centers, data networking, and video communications. It serves as a client's communications arm and integrates directly with IT processes to help manage communications functions such as production and operations.

The solutions are custom-managed services that focus on performance, resources, tools, and cost. Included in the Avaya Communications Outsourcing Solutions are seamless worldwide multi-vendor support, extensive communications applications expertise and support, new operating expense procurement options, customized service level agreements, full alignment with Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) standards, a new communications management platform, and a lowered total cost of ownership.

According to Stephen Leaden, UC Expert at UCStrategies: "Avaya’s Communications Outsourcing Solutions is one of the few announcements from a major UC manufacturer for outsourcing professional services. In our consulting practice we see the market becoming more complex with the introduction of VoIP, UC, collaboration, and other tools to support the enterprise community, which is resulting in an interest to outsource components of Telecom."

"In my opinion, Avaya sees an opportunity to provide outsourced professional services and increase revenues and diversify their portfolio, especially in a multi-vendor environment. Supporting a multi-vendor environment allows Avaya to be ready to upgrade/replace the current multi-vendor environment with a single Avaya-based solution when the time becomes right while supporting the customer now. The key words here are 'increase revenues and diversify their portfolio.' Avaya needs to grow their revenues, and the model proposal is residual in nature."

"We have experienced multi-vendor support – commonly done better by VARs who have channel access to multiple manufacturer data and software, an area that be more difficult for Avaya as they may be looked at as a direct competitor. This point should be asked of Avaya if you are considering them to support a multi-vendor environment. In my opinion, this is a response by Avaya to the growing interest in the market in the cloud.  Avaya needs to address this with their VAR community as revenues with some of the VARs may overlap and create conflict. One word of caution, with the growing interest in the cloud, an all-in-one solution to support the enterprise also equals an all eggs-in-one-basket approach which should be seriously reviewed and a thorough contract with SLAs should be employed."

Good points, Stephen!

I would like to also suggest that the combination of cloud-based services and independent VARs/VADs who will be reselling those services will spur integrated, "Best-of-Breed" approach to software' not hardware based solutions.
