Transcript for Innovation at ITExpo - Polkast

Blair Pleasant: Hi, this is Blair Pleasant. I’m at ITExpo in Las Vegas, and I am with Hong Bui of Polkast. This is a really different company. I was really impressed with what I saw. Please tell us about it.

Hong Bui: Polkast is different from a traditional cloud company out there like Dropbox, iCloud, or Google Drive. Instead of you putting your content into the cloud before you can get access to it from your mobile devices, what Polkast does is turn your Mac, your PC, and your mass storage device, into your own personal cloud so you can get access to it directly.

So as you can see, from my iPad right here, I should be able to see all the content I have on my Mac, and we are able to get to all the documents I have here. So if I need this document, I just download and open it up like that, and the content will be streaming over, and I will be able to get access to them.

And also, for example, we organize the device content management. In terms of your photos and your videos and your music, we automatically organize your information for you as well. So you don’t have to spend a lot of time searching. And because we organize everything by picture and video for you, we also can give you a very pleasant viewing of your content as well.

As you can see, you can go in there and you are able to see all your content. You will be able to also edit it from anywhere. And also, for example, the reason a lot of people like the Polkast solution is although you are away from your office a lot of the time and someone would say, “hey Hong, where is the presentation you promised me, or where are the documents?” Even remotely, even though I am away from home, I should be able to photo sharing. I should be able to share a single document or a whole folder. And all I need to do is do this, and then add the person to whom I want to share with.

Blair: So it is really a collaboration tool.

Hong: Exactly, and it allows you to share all your content. And then I can allow the person to have access. And remotely, now that person when I am not even at the office, I can give them permission to access that folder remotely. And that person when they go there, they go to the section folder sharing with me. And they go like this, and then can be updated. And then they can go in and get access to all their content remotely from anywhere.

Blair: And you said when you update information, it automatically gets updated on the other device.

Hong: Yes, that’s absolutely right. So therefore, you can make a lot of content. You download and use it. And when someone uploads content, we automatically tell you, “hey, you have new content; would you like to download this content?” And sometimes when you modify that content, you upload it back and we automatically make a new version for you so you will not overwrite your previous work.

Blair: And this is just software that you download on the computer and you are good to go?

Hong: That’s right. We have made it into a challenge: two minutes and do your own cloud. Anyone should be able to do it. All you have to do is download the software and you place it on your Mac. That should really take a couple of minutes. You register your account. You download onto your mobile device, be it an Android or Mac or PC, what have you. And then you will be able to get access to all that information no matter where you are. And it should take two or three minutes and that is pretty much it.

Blair: Okay. Thank you so much.

Hong: Thank you so much for having me.
