Samantha Kane, a valued member of the UCStrategies family since 2008, passed away Friday morning after a long and courageous battle with cancer. A fixture at annual UCStrategies events over the years despite her illness, she remained an enthusiastic participant, and embraced the opportunity to forge new relationships.

A celebration of Samantha’s life will be held Tuesday, February 12, in Belleville, Ontario. Messages of remembrance of experiences with Samantha are welcome, and will be shared at the Celebration of Life. Friends are asked to forward the messages to rpachal (at) pacomm.com.

Samantha was the founding partner of Kane-MacKay & Associates (KMA) in 1989, which grew into one of the leading E911 Enterprise practices in North America.

Samantha had a long history of both business and community achievements. In 1992, KMA implemented the first Remote Agent using disabled staff for a North America-wide emergency road-side assistance organization. The product eventually became the model for the use of remote agents as we know it today. KMA is recognized by several state legislations for their standards and best practices in this area. A corporate sponsor of Women's Executive Network, Canadian Women in Communications and a long standing member of the Society of Technology Consultants (STC) in the U.S. Samantha was a member of the Canadian Federal Government Win Export, now the VTC, and was a 2002-2008, Team Member of Canada’s Trade Missions to several countries. Samantha was a member of the Association for the Advancement Relationship Management (AARM) and Women in International Trade. In 2010, she was nominated for the Rotman School of Business; Canadian Women Entrepreneur of the Year Award, her 8th nomination for that award. Samantha was a Rotary International Paul Harris recipient, and nominated for the Federal Government Joanne Townsend International Trade Award, 2005-2007. In 2008, she won awards for the first ever Women Exporter of the Year given by Women in International Trade and the Business Women of the Year for the province of Ontario.

Samantha graced us with caring, compassion, and warmth, and will be greatly missed.

I was shocked and saddened to learn about Samantha's passing. I thought that she was in remission with her illness.

She was both a knowledgeable and gracious person, and we both had a similar vision for UC. My wife was most appreciative when I was in the hospital with open heart surgery for the many calls she received from Samantha asking how I was doing.

She will be long remembered for her accomplishments and personal warmth.

Samantha was not only an expert in her field, but a strong, classy, caring person. She had a very strong work ethic, and even when she was ill, she contributed to UCStrategies whenever she could. But above that, she was a wonderful human being. We will miss her.

Wow, very sad to hear the news for sure. Totally echo Blair's comments, and she will definitely be missed. Condolences and comforting thoughts also to her husband Bill, who has been by her side all this time.
