On one hand, it creates a clear legal framework designed to accelerate AI adoption across the economy. On the other, it introduces strict safeguards for users facing increasingly realistic AI-generated content.<\/p>\n<h2>Mandatory labeling of AI content<\/h2>\n<p>Lawmakers focused heavily on the rise of <strong>deepfakes<\/strong> \u2014 manipulated videos, images, or audio that can convincingly imitate real people.<\/p>\n<p>To address this, the law enforces a principle of <strong>maximum transparency<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>From now on, any content created or modified using artificial intelligence \u2014 whether <strong>text, images, video, or sound<\/strong> \u2014 must clearly indicate that it was AI-generated whenever it could be mistaken for human-made content.<\/p>\n<p>In practice, this means:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>AI-generated images and videos must include a visible watermark or visual marker<\/li>\n<li>AI-generated audio must carry an audible or technical identifier<\/li>\n<li>AI-written text must include a warning message, metadata tag, or disclosure notice<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Sharing an AI-generated image on social media without disclosure will no longer be allowed. The same rule applies to texts produced by generative tools: users must be informed when content is not human-authored.<\/p>\n<h2>Heavy penalties for violations<\/h2>\n<p>To ensure compliance, the law introduces <strong>significant financial penalties<\/strong> for companies that fail to meet transparency requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Sanctions are even harsher when AI is misused in sensitive sectors such as <strong>healthcare, education, or energy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Crucially, the regulation does not stop at national borders. Foreign companies offering AI services to South Korean users are also subject to the rules.<\/p>\n<p>Any foreign platform with more than <strong>one million daily users<\/strong> in South Korea must now establish a local office with an on-site team.<\/p>\n<p>This local presence allows authorities to summon, audit, and sanction companies directly in case of violations.<\/p>\n<h2>A model for future AI regulation?<\/h2>\n<p>While the law applies only to South Korea for now, its scope is already attracting attention abroad.<\/p>\n<p>By combining innovation incentives with strict transparency rules, the country may be laying the groundwork for a regulatory model that other nations could soon follow.<\/p>\n<p>In short, AI-generated content is no longer allowed to hide in plain sight.
